John Buhrmaster

President & Chief Executive Officer, 1st National Bank of Scotia

John Buhrmaster is the President and CEO of 1st National Bank of Scotia, a $675 million bank located in Scotia, NY, serving a diverse consumer and business customer base. Mr. Buhrmaster is a 4th generation banker who has served in many capacities at the Bank from Teller to CEO. Over the years his primary areas of focus have been on consumer lending and technology serving as manager of Indirect Lending, Credit Administration, Senior Technology Officer, and Senior Lending Officer.

Mr. Buhrmaster currently serves on the FIS Community CoreStrategic Planning Advisory Council and is a long-time member and Chairman of the BancPac Advisory Board. John is a former National Chairman of the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) and previously served as chairman of various ICBA committees including many years on the Payments & Technology Committee and as Chairman of ICBA Bancard. He is an original mentor for the Little Rock Venture Center’s community bank technology Accelerator programs for FIS and ICBA and is currently the immediate past Chairman of the CFPB’s Community Bank Advisory Council, board member of USI Alliance/Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation and past chairman of the Independent Bankers Association of New York State (IBANYS).

He has served as a director of TCM Bank NA, a credit card only bank, and has testified before the House and Senate regarding community bank and consumer issues. A graduate of the Syracuse University Whitman School of Management, John continues to serve his alma mater as a student mentor and as a judge for the annual Senior Capstone competition. He has been and continues to be active in his community serving on numerous community boards and committees with a special interest in promoting financial literacy and creating initiatives to assist underbanked and non-banked individuals.
